Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormones (rBGH), also known as Recombinant Bovine Somatotropins (rBST), are synthetic versions of the naturally occurring peptide hormone produced in a cow’s pituitary gland.
After giving birth, a cow produces milk for roughly 12 weeks, whilst doing so the cow is stressed, loses body weight and is susceptible to disease like mastitis which is an inflammation of the udders.
The reason the commercial dairy farmer gives the cow rBGH, is because it extends milk production for another 12 weeks, which obviously means the farmer gets more financial gain at the expense of the cow and of course your health.
To reduce the risk of mastitis in the cow, the farmer gives the cow antibiotics as a prophylactic, so if drinking a synthetic hormone which forces an imbalance of your own hormone’s isn’t enough, try adding some unwanted antibiotics to the mix.
Another problem with rBST is that it increases Insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) in the milk. IGF-1 is a powerful growth hormone in cows and humans and is also identical in both cows and the human body and its has coursed major concerns because, milk containing increased concentrations of IGF-1 can make existing cancers grow.
